Privacy Policy

Nook is designed to keep your focus zone local. This policy explains what little data we handle and how.

01.Introduction

Clemens Bretscher, operating under the brand Nook ("we", "our", or "us") operates the Nook mobile applications (iOS and Android) and the marketing website at nook-app.io. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our services.

For GDPR purposes, we act as the controller for the personal data described in this policy. We process data to provide the app, comply with legal obligations, pursue legitimate interests in operating and securing the service, and — where required — obtain consent for optional analytics on this website.

Last updated: August 4, 2026. If we make material changes, we will update this page and revise the date above.

02.Information we collect

On your device

  • Paired puck / beacon identifiers stored locally
  • App block lists and mode settings (Nook / Koon)
  • Zone calibration and proximity preferences
  • Screen Time / Accessibility permissions used only on-device to enforce blocking

On this website

  • Cookie consent choice (stored in your browser)
  • Optional privacy-friendly analytics via Vercel Web Analytics (only after you opt in) — see Cookies & analytics
  • Email if you contact us directly

Nook does not currently require an account. Bluetooth presence detection and app blocking run on your phone. We do not sell personal data.

03.How we use information

  • Provide and improve the quiet-zone blocking experience
  • Remember your puck pairing and preferences on-device
  • Respond to support requests you send us
  • Understand aggregate marketing-site traffic when analytics consent is given
  • Comply with applicable law

04.Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We use infrastructure providers who process data only as needed to operate the service. This website is hosted by Vercel Inc. (United States), which acts as a processor under its Data Processing Addendum (including Standard Contractual Clauses / EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework safeguards for transfers). If you consent to analytics, Vercel Web Analytics processes aggregated, cookieless usage metrics on our behalf — see Cookies & analytics.

05.Retention

On-device settings remain until you clear app data or uninstall. Cookie consent records stay in your browser until you clear site data or we bump the consent version. Vercel Web Analytics visitor sessions are discarded after 24 hours; we use only aggregated statistics thereafter. Emails you send us are kept only as long as needed to handle your request.

06.Your rights

Depending on where you live (including the EU/EEA and UK), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of personal data, and to object or withdraw consent. Contact privacy@nook-app.io to exercise these rights. You may also lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

07.Cookies & analytics

This marketing site uses:

  • Essential — stores your consent choice in localStorage (and the language preference cookie where applicable) so we remember your preference. These are strictly necessary.
  • Analytics (optional, consent-based) — Vercel Web Analytics. It does not set cookies. After you opt in, it may record aggregated page views such as URL (without query strings), referrer, approximate geolocation (country/region/city), device type, and browser/OS. Visitors are identified only by a short-lived hash derived from the request (discarded after 24 hours), not by a persistent profile across sites. Not used for advertising. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw anytime.

You can change your mind anytime via Cookie Preferences in the footer. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal and you have not yet made a choice, we treat that as essential-only.
